How to Use Your VA Community Care Benefits
Start with your VA care team. Ask for a Community Care referral for audiology and let them know you'd like to be seen at Optimum Audiology. Once the VA approves the referral and sends it to us, call or text (760) 503-1700 and we'll set up your visit. Not sure you qualify? Yes. Optimum Audiology is part of the VA Community Care Network, which lets eligible Veterans see an approved audiologist outside a VA facility. You can have your hearing tested, get fitted for hearing aids, and come back for adjustments at our offices in Apple Valley, Jess Ranch, La Verne, or Visalia.

Gunfire, explosions, aircraft, heavy vehicles, and engine rooms are some of the loudest sounds a person can be exposed to. Even short bursts can damage the tiny hair cells in the inner ear, and that damage doesn't heal. According to the VA, tinnitus and hearing loss are the two most common service-connected disabilities among Veterans.
Noise-induced hearing loss often shows up years after service, so many Veterans don't connect the two. If you're turning up the TV, missing parts of conversations, or hearing a ringing that won't quit, a hearing test will show what's going on. Admitting it takes strength, and you don't have to sort it out alone.
Yes. We start with a full tinnitus evaluation to learn what your ringing or buzzing sounds like and how it affects your sleep, focus, and mood. From there, options include hearing aids with built-in sound therapy, sound maskers, Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, and counseling based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
We are also an approved provider of Lenire, an at-home treatment that pairs sound through headphones with gentle tongue stimulation. For support between visits, we also offer Oto, an at-home tinnitus management program that uses sound therapy, with exercises drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques alongside, and we set it up with you in our office. There is no cure for tinnitus, but many patients find relief that makes the sound much easier to live with. You can read more on our tinnitus treatment page.
Your first visit is a full diagnostic hearing evaluation in a sound booth, and it takes about 45 to 60 minutes. We ask about your service history, noise exposure, and the places where hearing is hardest, then run pure-tone, speech, and otoacoustic emissions testing. Your results are explained in plain language before you leave.
If hearing aids are the right step, we recommend options from all major manufacturers based on your hearing and your daily life. Every fitting is verified with REM, which measures the sound in your own ear canal so the hearing aids match your prescription. Follow-up visits, remote adjustments, and curbside service are available too.
